What's the best wood to have with pets?

As long as you keep your pets nails trimmed, any wood will be okay.

I have a large dent in the middle of my wood floor, can it be fixed?

Yes. There are many variables that we will look into such as; How deep is the dent/scratch? Is it pre-finished or site finished floor? If site finished, has it been waxed before? How old is the floor?

How long does it take from start to finish?

It depends on the size floor and type of wood that you’re having installed but here are the steps involved in the Install Process:

SOLID SITE FINISHED FLOOR:

  • Remove/dispose of old flooring (if applicable)
  • Apply vapor barrier
  • Install plywood
  • Staple down wood

ENGINEERED SITE FINISHED FLOORING:

  • Remove/dispose of old flooring (if applicable)
  • Glue down wood (the glue acts as a vapor barrier with this type of wood)

Once installed, the following steps are part of the Finish Process:

SOLID SITE FINISHED OR ENGINEERED FLOORING:

  • Stain floor (if applicable)
  • Apply three coats of finish
** The first two coats of finish can be applied the same day by using a quick dry on the first coat (this applies to both oil and water based finishes)

What's the difference between oil and water based finishes?

OIL BASED FINISH

  • Ambers with age. This is caused by UV light which brings out more of the color of the wood.

WATER BASED FINISH

  • Non-yellowing
  • Harder surface
  • Less odor when applied
How do I know which wood is harder than others?

Wood hardness is measured on what’s called a Janka scale. The chart below displays the wood hardness for each type of wood. (Image courtesy of the National Wood Flooring Association)

How do I maintain my hardwood floor?

The best way to keep your wood floors from being scratched is to keep sand off the floors, use pads on the bottom of chairs/furniture and keep your pets nails trimmed.

Wash your floors with only cleaners that are made specifically for hardwood flooring.

What's the difference between buffing and resanding?

BUFF AND COAT:

  • Best for lightly worn floors
  • Floor is buffed and one coat of finish is applied

RESAND:

  • Used when floors are scratched and/or has a dent that’s too deep to buff out.
  • Floor is sanded to raw rood, stained (if applicable) and three coats of finish is applied.
What is waterpopping?

Waterpopping is when we spray the wood with water. It opens the grain in the wood and allows it to take stain better.

What's the best humidity level for wood floors in Arizona?

The humidity level should be maintained between 35-50 degrees Farenheit.
